Orchard Road is renowned as Singapore’s premier shopping street. It’s home to a plethora of high-end boutiques, flagship stores, department stores, and shopping malls. If you’re a shopaholic or enjoy retail therapy, Orchard Road is a paradise with options for all budgets and tastes. Many of the world’s top luxury brands, including Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Prada, have flagship stores along Orchard Road. It’s the place to indulge in high-end fashion and luxury goods.
ORCHARD ROAD
While many go to Orchard Road for shopping, we want to visit because of two things: first to visit Library@Orchard, and second to try the famous one-dollar ice cream.
How to get to Orchard Road in Singapore?
Orchard Road is centrally located in Singapore, making it easily accessible from various parts of the city. It’s well-connected by public transportation, including the MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) system. Here’s how to get there:
| By MRT (Mass Rapid Transit): The most convenient way to reach Orchard Road is by taking the MRT (subway). The closest MRT Station is Somerset (North-South Line) and take Exit C. |
| By Bus: Several bus services also run along Orchard Road. You can check the bus routes and schedules to find one that best suits your location. Alight at the bus stop closest to your desired shopping center or attraction on Orchard Road. |
| By Walking: If you’re staying in a nearby area or hotel, you can also walk to Orchard Road. It’s a pedestrian-friendly area, and many hotels in the vicinity are within walking distance of Orchard Road’s shopping centers and attractions. |
Library@Orchard
After exiting the MRT station we head to the 3rd floor of Orchard Gateway Mall. The library is just in front of the escalator.
What sets this library apart from others in the country is its focus on applied arts, design, and lifestyle. Opening hours are from 11 am to 9 pm daily. There’s no entrance fee needed.
One Dollar Ice Cream in Orchard Singapore
After an hour inside the library, we head out of Orchard Gateway Mall and walk for 5 minutes towards Takashimaya Mall. We easily noticed the one-dollar ice cream stall because of the long line of locals and tourists who wanted to buy as well.
To our surprise, it’s no longer $1 dollar each but now cost $1.5 dollar. But we still buy. We have all different flavors available, obviously, I got the chocolate one. It tastes good and very creamy. The slice of bread is fluffy. This reminded me so much of the dirty ice cream in a bun, I always bought when I was young.
I am glad we did include Orchard Road in our itinerary. We really enjoyed it a lot. In summary, Orchard Road offers a mix of luxury, shopping, dining, entertainment, and cultural experiences. Whether you’re looking to indulge in retail therapy, enjoy a gourmet meal, or simply soak in the vibrant atmosphere, Orchard Road has something to offer every visitor.
