FILLING STATION BAR & CAFE: A 50s Diner in the heart of Makati

FILLING STATION BAR & CAFE

Filling Station Bar & Cafe is located at Burgos St., Poblacion, Makati City, Philippines.

I’ve been wanting to visit this place for a long time and I am so glad that my childhood friend choose this place to hang out before she came back to Qatar for work. Our meet-up time is 7 pm but because of traffic, I arrived 30 minutes late.

How to get here?

OPTION 1
1. Ride MRT going to Buendia Station
2. Ride a Jeep beside Mcdonalds’ with the sign “Washington”
3. Get off at Makati Avenue
4. Take a 3-minute walk going to P. Burgos Street (Use Google Maps)

In my case, because it was raining I booked a grab. Filling Station Bar & Cafe is located in the bustling streets of Poblacion, Makati. This P. Burgos Street is so busy at night and is known as a hub of different bars. The grab driver dropped me off in front of this bar cafe. The first thing I noticed is its attention-grabbing neon-lit facade. It’s so eye-catching and inviting, everybody who sees it will definitely take a look.

Filling Station Bar & Cafe: A little back story

Filling Station Bar & Cafe may seem to be a gas station but it actually refers to a 50’s vibe diner. “PLAY, DRAIN & REFILL! That’s what it’s all about at FILLING STATION according to their website. The restaurant is the idea of an ex-US Navy chief cook who decided not to move back to the US. He wanted to set up a place similar to the diners in the fifties in the States complete with posters from that era, an oil barrel bar, 50’s type working telephones, 50’s type television sets, and a lot more. If you had watched Stranger Things on Netflix, the waiters here are dressed like Steeve and Robin while they are at work. So cool!

This bar cafe has two floors. The first floor has a collection of all these different liquor bottles and an old red telephone booth. They even have real gas pumps, much like the ones used by our grandparents when Shell, Esso, and Mobil Gas were the brands that were much patronized. But what really got my attention is the vintage Mini Cooper parked on this floor. Dope! This place definitely transports its customers back to the golden era of the fifties.

Dining Experience:

After having a quick check on the first floor. We head to the second floor and got the table near the window. Just when I thought that all the good stuff is on the first floor, man I was wrong! My eyes were feasting with all this 50’s era memorabilia. The place is plastered with vinyl records and old car plates from both the US and the Philippines. They have bikes suspended from the ceiling. Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe still reign supreme here. They have a red and white motif for their tables and chairs that go well with their checkered flooring.

Me and my friends both didn’t want heavy food so we got All-Star Nachos Php 418, Cajun Chicken Fingers Php 283, and Four Cheese Pizza Php 573.

I am not really a picky eater when it comes to food but I got to say I really enjoyed what we ordered! Though we run out of the fillings for the nachos.

As for our overall experience, we highly recommend this place. A great spot to hang out with friends and family. Best time to visit and dine? Probably, Night time! Take every opportunity to take pictures. There are a lot of Instagramble areas with retro vibes.
